Restaurant Week - Crab Hut

Romantic Tip: Date night is a must! Maybe a picnic for two, a meal at a great restaurant, or tickets to a ballgame, movie or play. Consider mutual interests so you both have fun or take turns picking the entertainment. Remember, a date doesn't have to be expensive; get creative. The idea is to have fun and talk. Schedule a month in advance and don't cancel, as it's the most important appointment of the month.

Restaurant week has begun in San Diego! I am so excited. We decided this week, since we just moved downtown, that we will be eating at 7 restaurants in the next 7 days. I am doing reviews of each place we dine. First up Crab Hut

The Crab Hut is known as a Louisiana Seafood Kitchen.
Located at 1007 5th Ave. #101 Downtown San Diego, CA 92101 It was the perfect place for us to start, because it is on the 1st floor of our building.

Crab Hut was founded in 2007 by a family that loves food and beer, with one purpose to bring San Diego some good ole' Southern sass and flavor. We think they succeeded! I walked in with the full intent to be a hard ass and over judge the food. That went out the window with my first bite.

If you are not familiar with restaurant week in San Diego, please visit http://www.sandiegorestaurantweek.com/ "Experience cuisine that delights your palate and defines the art of dining in San Diego. Held twice annually, this beloved culinary tradition features discounted prix fixe menus from more than 180 of San Diego's best restaurants in 12 unique regions throughout San Diego County."

Like all participating restaurants, Crab hut had a price fix menu for lunch and dinner. We were there for lunch, where we got to pick our first and second courses for just $15.

We chose:

White wine Sangria

Nice and light refreshing lunchtime cocktail.

Crab Chowder

Like New England style clam chowder with baby crab meat instead of clams.
Very good, great start to my meal. Generously filled with tender crab meat. Will definitely order again.

Seafood Gumbo
Crab meat, clams, shrimp, crawfish, okra, celery, bell pepper and white onion simmered in our house made seafood stock.
Very flavor forward, very yummy.

Spicy Jambalaya
A Creole style Jambalaya with andouille sausages, chicken, crawfish tail meat, clams, and shrimp served over rice.
I asked husband to describe it and he said; "YUM". Seasoned well throughout, all proteins were perfectly cooked. Just the right amount of heat. Will definitely order again.
Spicy Shrimp Etouffee
Fresh asparagus, onion, grounded garlic, bell pepper and shrimp meat in a rich seafood and chicken stock. Served with rice.
This was the favorite dish of the day. Perfectly seasoned, excellent level of spice. It sings in your mouth. Will definitely order again.

All in all the food was very good, the atmosphere was nice, our server Nam was amazing. We give the Crab Hut 4.5 stars.
